My husband Brad and I created Getting Laser Focused so that students could confidently take control of their academic success discovering they are capable of consistently learning far more in less time with less stress than ever before. I'm Wendey, an Exam Success Coach and learning specialist. Beyond my professional life, I'm a devoted mom, dog lover, dessert enthusiast, snow skier, and cyclist.

When I'm not coaching, you'll find me exploring outdoors with my husband and my boys, cooking up a homemade spread to fuel their endless appetites, or perhaps on our next travel adventure to a new vacation spot or national park.

This zest for life translates into playful energy and enthusiasm in every coaching session. With over 25 years in the educational field, I'm fiercely passionate about elevating student success. Why?

How I became an Exam Success Coach

My path to becoming an exam success coach has been a diverse one, shaped by a range of rich experiences. I've taught in both general and special education in public schools, and these early years were invaluable in shaping my approach.

However, a pivotal part of my journey was my 12-year tenure at The Ohio State University's Department of Educational Psychology.

Here, I dedicated myself to teaching students how to study in a smarter, more effective way. I helped them harness strategies for quicker learning and stronger memory, which made a significant difference in their academic journey.

Those years at OSU not only deepened my understanding of student needs but also ignited a stronger passion within me for student success. Now armed with these experiences and insights, I'm committed and excited to help your college-bound or current college student reach their highest academic potential.

A unique approach

I have seen students wrestle with stress, ineffective study strategies, lack of motivation, confidence and procrastination. Watching them struggle to maintain or get the grades they needed broke my heart, and it set me on a mission… a mission to change the way students study forever, making learning far easier and more enjoyable than ever before.

Unlike traditional “tutoring”, my approach is unique. Where tutors provide subject-specific help, I equip your student with a broad range of tools, strategies, and skills they need to excel in any subject. Leveraging insights from educational and cognitive psychology research, I guide students in crafting personalized study plans, creating effective study tools, getting systems and routines in place to get things done, setting goals, and nurturing a positive mindset.
